Bohol: “Date,” and Nature Adventure – Day 1

Standard

Our Bohol Escapade : Date with Papi

We were alone on this trip, no kids, no friends, new place, new adventure… We look forward to wonderful time. Little have I researched about this place, i only did my “homework” a day before we leave. I want to be surprised and amazed… I just need the keywords for certain tours and spots, and leave everything to last-minute arrangement.

First nice thing stored for us is the beauty of the resort, Flushing Meadows. It’s actually for “honeymooners” and those want to be “isolated.” The resort landscape is admirable, the rooms are cozy, however, the beach is narrow and not too inviting. And the food is quite pricey… Anyway, we can adjust and still enjoy the place.

I have only arranged our first tour when we get there, I called Kuya Jerry (recommended by colleagues) and set the following desired places: Dauis Church, Mag-Aso Waterfalls, Hinagdanan Cave, St. Joseph Church, Alona Beach. All of these I choose are not included in our hotel package.

Dauis Church, a beautiful, artful church, with well-known miraculous eternal well (balon) of holy water. The ceilings are artistically designed with murals and moldings. I got so many shots of this posted in my Instagram.

Next stop is quite far and out-of-the-way, the Mag-Aso Falls… I really have to see it, so I insisted to include here in our tour. The falls is splendid, but have to take 97 steps down to reach it… No sweat… :>

It’s quite dark when we reached the Hinagdanan Cave, the ticket booth have already closed, but an enthusiastic guide let us in (over-the-bakod)… Nothing can stop us at this point (we came this far not to see this!)… It’s worth it, and our guide was very funny! Thanks for the wonderful experience (and photos)!

We just passed by the Panglao Church because it was about nightime. We’ve decided to “splurged” on our dinner and beer on seafoods restaurant along Alona Beach. We had great time watching the fire-dancer (which is actually just a kid)…

So that’s Day 1 of our Bohol Experience… Will blog the Part 2 next time…

Precious Moments with Aliya

Standard

While I was just seating taking a rest, thinking of my takehome work to do later…. my Aliya approached me with a little paper, she said, “look at this Mum, it says i love you!” and she kissed me… And she put her chin on her two palms while resting her elbows on my legs, waiting for me to see whats written on the paper… Oohhh… So want to capture that sweet face, that priceless scene, that charming smile… Of course the paper are just full of mild scrawl of “worms” and wavy lines… (she can’t write yet)… And of course, to her (and to me) it says… “I love you”  priceless, so rewarding… 🙂
That night we ended up sleeping late, just chatting, reading, learning new prayers and chatting…. And falling asleep content and happy!
(post note: and I just panicked when I woke up 3am realizing I haven’t done my homework!…. But also realized that I will never never exchange that night with Aliya by doing my work…… and then went back to sleep. Zzzzz)

Today: Whatever Life Offers….

Standard

Today…
I will work this day with all my strength,
content in the knowledge that life does not consist of wallowing in the past or peering anxiously at the future.
It is appalling to contemplate the great number of painful steps
by which one arrives at a truth so old, so obvious, and so frequently expressed.
Whatever it offers, little or much,
my life is now.

Whatever Life Offers, my Day is NOW…. Or shall I say, let’s make a good use of our NOW, so we can show “Life” what we can offer! Just strive to be better everyday, always better than yesterday. Let’s create our NOW more deliberately.

Instagram: 10 Reasons Why I’m into It

Standard

Hmmp… I’ve been “joining” the mobile enthusiasts lately… and that’s because of Instagram! I bet most of the people now is aware if this genius awesome app. Well, I’m not really into latest gadgets and celfone… my past 6 celfones (since the advent of celphones 20+ years ago, imagine 6!) are not the top-of-the-line and all were least popular. But now I have an iPhone4s and I never regretted to have “splurged” on this (actually I got it thru Globe plan, but with costly monthly subscription, but that’s ok). Maybe, I “waited” for best all-in-features celphone in years that’s why I never want to buy hi-tech celphone in the past (reason, reason… 🙂 )

Anyway, Instagram (and Flipboard and my mobile WordPress and online stock trading) are the reasons why I’m loving my IPhone4s. Here are my few thoughts about Instagram (or alibi why I’m hooked into it):

1. Handy photography – if one loves photography and can’t really bring along every time their bulky cameras… then this is your things. I snap photos anywhere and any subject without being too flashy or obvious or boasty. See this collection from “Gramfeed”

2. Collection of beautiful photos – if you are like me who has Flickr and Picassa accounts and have ventured the “Iheartit” site… then Instagram is the celfone version where to keep awesome photos of yours (it must be really your photos!), and accessible too in your PC or laptop. And you can organize it anytime, anywhere. I also choose nice shots taken by my Canon G11 and put it here. No, it’s not exclusive for “iphone” shots. See here.

3. Edit and filters – it has filters to improve the color, depth, shadow, lighting of photos. I only use the basics and I never overdo my photos, otherwise it might loss its originality and warmth. Some I leave it as “original” (See related article)

4. No ads, no pop-up – I actually read a blog about the founder of Instagram who never intend to commercialize this app and join the wagon and monetizing every click. It pays his good intention when it eventually been “monetized” bigtime when it was bought bigtime by FB… Inspiring article, I will post it here later.

5. Inspiration – one can find a lot of inspiration of subjects with fellow instagramers. The variety of interests are unending and so inspiring. Group of users are finding each others because of same interesting photos they see and appreciate.

by @abel_sjk in #depthclub

6. Talents – one need not be a professional photographer to be in here… but even simple mom, kid or everyday people realize that there is a “photographer” in us and we continue snapping shots of our own interest and loving it! (See one of my favorite instagrammers collection).

7. Realization that there’s beauty everywhere – One can find photos so beautiful that you realize that the same scenes are familiar to your naked eyes and always taking it for granted. Even simple scene can be a great subject, like train tracks, an old lady, post lamp, feet…

by @shelldf

8. “Friends” – this is a social network of talented photographers and simple people who are united in liking photography and life! This showcases collections of one’s photos (even of old photos from old cameras) that others truly appreciate. Likers and followers, I believe, are sincere about clicking the button “Like” and commenting if they are really feel so!

9. Warmth – This is how I feel in seeing others’ life through their own eyes. (Example is a simple shot of a foot while the she is resting on the grass and thinking about life and her goals, and another is a shot of kid enjoying bubbles)

by @ayanah

10. Sincerity – This is what really comes to mind when a friend asked me what I love about Instagram. Sincerity of the users of having taken a shot of subjects they love, and sincerity of the “Likers” of choosing the best from each other’s collections, because they truly like it! Not all maybe, but at least I speak of myself and most of those Instagramers I “bumped” into.

by @karinagtti

There you go! I am not a techie-person… but suddenly I fell for my celfone and IG!

Today: Smile…Even When It Hurts….

Standard

Today….
I will keep a smile on my face and in my heart even when it hurts today.
I know that the world is a looking glass and gives back to me the reflection of my own soul.
Now I understand the secret of correcting the attitude of others
and that is to correct my own.

101 Minus: Mama Mia with Mama

Standard

No. 18 – Have a Solo Date with Mama
(Have to update my 1st 101 list 🙂 )
I got 2 tickets for the musical play Mamma Mia at the CCP last February… Its a pricey show and limited for few weeks only in the Phils. So its a date with my Mama! The musical featured Abba songs which are kind of oldies that’s my best companion that would appreciate it is my mom… The show was great, their voices are powerful. The music are nostalgic! We had a great time!

Currently Reading: All pending…for good reasons…

Standard

Eat Pray and Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
It’s nice to find a book you want to “savor”… not wanting to rush reading and yet enjoying every page… wanting to go on, but keeping the pace slow so it will last much longer… this is THE book you can call a “companion”… (best to read in airports and beach) nice… proud to say I’m not yet finished with it…

Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
An intriguing book that makes one “dizzy” on plot and sequence but also loving it thinking how clever it was structured. I am not a ‘romance’ reader, but this one qualifies as that with twist of sci-fi?! Not yet finished, because I’m having hard time “digesting” because the idea of “predetermined destiny” is kind of “off” and against compared to my theory of “butterfly effect”… anyway, this book is a source of good discussion between me and jolo, that’s why I am keeping at it.

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
Got curious when featured in Readers’ Digest and found the first few chapters as intriguingly interesting. Though quite theoretical its not conventional. “The Power of thinking Without Thinking” it says in its cover… it said don’t overthink… but hey, It made me think quite a lot in every page…. thus, I’m still at it. (a good LRT companion too)

ABNKKBSNPLKo by Bob Ong
Jolo picked it up, convincing me it will help his tagalog vocabulary. A local book which Jolo and I found funny, light and yet insightful about simple things. I was enjoying the first few chapters (I have to read it first to know if it is suitable for Jolo, or needs PG), when Jolo found me amused and smiling, thus he took it, read it in few days, lent it to classmates and friend… and since then, haven’t seen it yet again to finish it… haay…

Today…. The Only Day…

Standard

Today….

I will treasure this day, for it is all I have.
I know that its rushing hours cannot be accumulated or stored,
like precious grain, for future use.

Aliya, Sept 7 2011, having fun dressing up princess…

Today, while I plan for and do everyday “livelihood” chores, I should not also forget to seize every moment with delight and pleasure… no matter how toxic and busy life is, there is always simple things lurking around (unnoticed) that can make us smile and feel warm… like a kid’s smile, her bouncing around, or kid’s effort to offer you slippers (and foot massage), their singing while playing in shower. Those are the moments that cannot be stored in a box, nor completely captured in a photo. Life is now. Appreciation should not be delayed! Maybe, this imight be really the only day I have….

Best Day Ever!

Standard

Last night, I caught Aliya suddenly stood up from her sleepy state and danced and sing when he heard the song featuring at “Nick tune” at Nicolodean…. Her full smile and delight shining on her face (gone was her sleepy state!). I was delighted too… so I sat her with me and watched some more in You Tube and do sing-along over and over… (at 11 in the evening!)
“Best Day Ever” lyrics is soooo nice, funny and insightful! If you just can imagine if people waking up every morning with the same positive attitude and delight! hahaha!
Until sleeping time, Aliya is singing the song, but she keep on saying “Best Friend Ever” and I kept on correcting her, but can’t win!… Anyway her version is so cute too…
I woke up this morning with that song playing in my head…
What a good felling, i’ll tell you…
Best day ever!
I stamp this day as my “best-day-ever” day!

Mr. Sun came out and he smiled at me.
Said it’s gonna be a good one just wait and see!
Jumped out of bed and I ran outside feeling so extra exstatified!

It’s the Best day ever! (Best day ever)
It’s the Best day ever! (Best day ever)

I’m so busy got nothing to do, spent the last two hours just tying my shoe.
Every flower every grain of sand, is reaching out to shake my hand.

It’s the Best day ever! (Best day ever)
It’s the Best day ever! (Best day ever)

Sometimes the little things start closing in on me,
when I’m feeling down I wanna lose that frown
I stick my head out the window and look around.
Those clouds don’t scare me they can’t disguise,
this magic that’s happening right before my eyes.

Soon Mr. Moon will be shining bright so the best day ever will last all night.
Yes the Best day ever’s gonna last all night now.

It’s the Best day ever! (Best day ever)
It’s the Best day ever (Best day ever)
(Best day…)

Thank you for this day! … (Today, I start my “Today” series)

Standard

God, I thank you for this day.
I know I have not accomplished as yet all you expect of me,
and if that is your reason for bathing me in the fresh dew of another dawn,
I am most grateful.
I am prepared, at last, to make you proud of me.

Tsamba Pic: Sunrise! Club Paradise, Coron Palawan

Today I will start my “Today” blog-series, featuring bits from Og Mandino’s “Seeds of Success” from the book “Mission:Success”
this is my sort of scroll of prayers (with 20 resolutions and lots of appreciation for Today’s gift from God), this I recite almost every morning, and almost know by heart, this prayer guides me through my day (and life)!…
I want now to share this with you!

101 Minus: Adventure with Kids 2011

Standard

As part of my 101, I continue on having memorable fieldtrips and adventure with kids…
To recap the past get-away, here it is….

January – Lean’s fieldtrip in Subic’s Paradise Ranch and Ocean Adventure. We brought along our 2 1/2 Aliya…
February – Swimming at Villa Filomena… Just to “celebrate” Valentines
March – Swimming at Amana to celebrate Lean’s birthday
April – Sagada adventure with Jolo
May – PhiPhi Resort Bataan beach getaway with Lola Baby and Lolo Maurice
June – ALiya’s Bday at MOA, Father’s day treat at Shakey’s
July – Case Ibiza at Antipolo with Lean and Jolo and Mama and Daddy
August – Trinoma malling with Kids, Lunch at Tempura

These activities I have to deliberately plan, so it will happen. One regretful things to think is when one look back to years that passed, one cannot find something worthwhile and enjoyable memories worth bringing as “baon” esp when we get old…. These are the things i want to remember. It may be few (compared to the work-hours I spent with work), but these are the lasting ones….

This is considered done for the sake of my 101 list… but we will continue to plan and do stuff like these!

Ilocandia Tour Postponed by Typhoon Mina

Standard

We were so excited for this tour… but Mina got in the way

The flight was postponed, and any attempt to go by land would be impossible because of flooded areas. in towns going there. But good thing we didn’t push our a way (even on the next flight on Sunday), because Ilocos was too flooded too. Haay, it was a mess back there at the airport (angry pips because of inefficient, arrogant Cebu Pacific staff – well I don’t want to dwell on that, it doesn’t worth a blog from me), we ended our business there at around 12 noon na.

We were so hungry that we decided to turn our “bad trip” to “food trip” so we headed to Vikings for a hearthy lunch! “eat-all-you-can- drink-all-you can” treat! wheeew! (so sorry for the indulgence in this time of calamity…)

Paradise Found!

Standard

Club Paradise, Coron Palawan

What a paradise, literally! Club Paradise at Dimakya Island Coron Palawan.
A very awesome vacation treat given by our beloved office. A yearly getaway, but this time “minus” the kids… We regret to leave the kids, but it turned out its better that this paradise needs to be explored by Mom and Papi by themselves first… honeymoon again… :>
For just a glimpse of this beautiful place, here are my “tsamba” photos:

at the sunrise side of the beach (yes, there’s a sunset side and sunrise side, all in one island!)

peaceful and “all-by-ourselves”

the walk on the beach…

…the solitary boat, afternoon delight…

awesome planet…

the splendor of nature! the greatness of its Creator!

…we see to it that we watch every sunrise… and pray and be thankful!

More photos and kwento next time!

TSP: Fun Session and Nighttime Stories with Aliya

Standard

Every night, Aliya will always have her books before sleeping. It’s what she call “istoyi-taym” She gets not just one book but several books for her to “read,” well, she just actually telling stories “bulol-bulol” from the pictures. When its time, she asks me to read for her. And that’s our finest moment! And mind you, it’s not “solemn” reading good for a sleepy child, but she likes it to be complete with all sounds and actions and mimic of voices. That’s why at the end of it (4 stories at the minimum), mommy was exhausted, and Aliya was “alive” again.

Come to think of it, i been doing it since Jolo was a kid, then with Lean, and now Aliya. It’s seems that while my kids can “graduate” from this ritual, their Mom cannot!

Well, I know, when I’ll look back at it, it’s our finest moment! 🙂

TSP: Hijaked Mama’s Attic and Found Old Toys

Standard

Aliya and I made a quest in my Mama’s attic, and looked for old toys… there are lots of them up there and my little princess just can’t contain herself, no matter how dusty and torn and old these toys are! I saw the delight in her face for every good find! It was my pleasure to introduce her to my old (few) dolls. But our great find was the old circus toy set still in a box, with only just few pieces missing. We took them down and played with it together with Kuya Lean… Ahhh… a great way to enjoy Sunday!

Catching Up with my Reading

Standard

I ve been catching up with my reading marathon… it has to be 101 in1001 days, right? I have read somewhere that a kid read1000 books in 365 days, well she had done that while traveling, in between places, perhaps.  Me, I manage to do reading actually while in LRT, car, and in the loo :> other than that, the time and places are too hectic…

Well, what I have been reading or in the process* of reading:

  1. Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton
  2. Airframe by Michael Crichton (anything written by this author interests me)
  3. Time Traveller’s Wife* (i lost the book! I probably left it in a van… :<)
  4. Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom (thanks Kuya for sending me the book)
  5. You have the Power to Create Love by Bo Sanchez (a reading companion while in Coron Palawan)
  6. Duh! by Francis Kong (authographed)
  7. Why Dont You Grow Up (Dad)? by Francis Kong (authographed too)
  8. The Lightning Thief*(Percy Jackson Series) – I am catching up with Jolo, he’s now in 3rd book
  9. The Sphere* by Michael Cricthon
  10. The Only Real Things Matter by Francis Kong

Not bad, that’s almost 10% of my target. And that’s aside from business and “people” books I ve been reading while waiting my turn during training, and re-read of Harry Potter 7, to refresh me before and after the movie… :>
